Set default print settings for a printer

Since updating to Ventura, I cannot get my printer to default to a specific set of presets.

When I go to print, the preset is always set to "None", which is a problem because I need a specific preset to use my printer code. Now, I have to manually set the preset to the one I want every time I print, which is an extra step I did not need to take before upgrading.

1) I would like to be able to print to a default preset without manually choosing the preset every time, as I did before the update. How can I make the print dialog box do this?

2) I would also like to be able to set the "Default Settings" preset option to the appropriate settings for my printer. I can't figure out how to change that, either.

Update: It seems that now the system print dialog is defaulting not to "None", but to listing the last setting I used.

That's basically fine, but I still cannot use applications' native print dialog boxes. These seem to use some sort of default printer settings that are different from what comes up without clicking on the system dialog box.

How can I change the default print settings, such as they are when using applications' native print dialog boxes (which do not give me the option of changing to presets?)
