Turbo Tax 2022 wont save files (read only) on my new MacBook Air

Hi. I bought an external disc drive to install TurboTax TT 2022 on my new macAir (Catalina OS).

launched TT (fr red TT short cut sitting in my dockbar, not fr application folder)

spend 2 hours completing taxes, went to SAVE my file.

error message (inside TT program)

‘cannot save a read only file’

call TT, agent clueless.

opened the dvd driver, get info, verified read & write permissions

what else can I try ?

Hi ilovesstrawberries,

I love strawberries too!!! :-). I had the same problem and finally worked it out. Turbo Tax does a BAD job of setting up your Security & Privacy settings. How I solved this issue was to finally go into my Security and Privacy settings and made sure that Under Full Disk Access there is a check mark for Turbo Tax! If Turbo Tax isn't in there, then you'll have to add it by using the "+" sign. To put the check mark there, you have to use your password to unlock the Security settings. Then check Tubo Tax and click on the lock again to lock it. Also, make sure that Turbo Tax is in the Security Settings of "Files and Folders". Make sure it's checked also. With all that done you should be able to save your file. I've successfully saved twice and it works. Oh, and make sure every time Turbo Tax updates the program to check these settings.

Good Luck!

Troubleshooting TurboTax "Safe As":

A. Request a New Product Key:

Purchasing this, it usually comes with a card. So, if it is not letting you save your documents, then it may be a faulty install. So, ask TurboTax for a new product key. You'd drag this to the trash, restart your Mac, and then install the new code.

B. Try Safe Mode:

In Safe Mode, login items do not run, and corrupt system files(i.e. caches) are intentionally reset as a way to fix issues

  1. Boot: in to Safe Mode: [Hold Down: shift key upon boot].
  2. Log in: as same user
  3. Wait: 30 seconds
  4. Restart; your Mac
  5. Log in: as same user
  6. Perform another login
