How to buy song and convert to mP4 on iMac?

I need to purchase a short segment of music and convert it to an MP3 or MP4. I had iTunes, but it seems to have vanished. I had lots of purchased music on it, but I cannot even find it in my Applications folder. (I haven't used it in years since I listen to Pandora.) But I must buy a short piece of classical music that I can convert to an audio file for a background for a short slide show. What apps (do I have to buy? Can I buy music as MP3 or 4?

Lyrinda,

You can buy a purchased download song from the iTunes Store and it will be in AAC format. Follow the steps in here:

Buy music from the iTunes Store - Apple Support

After it is downloaded, you can easily create an MP3 version.

Convert a song to a different file format with the Apple Music app or iTunes for Windows – Apple Support (UK)

You can also buy tracks directly in MP3 format at Amazon, Bandcamp, etc.

Fantastic info! Huge help. But I don't know where the file of the music I purchased has been placed... so I can't do Item 7 - "Select folder or disc..."How can I find it in my Finder? Or do I find it in the Music app?

Lyrinda,

After the song is purchased and downloaded, you can see the track in the Music app. Right-click it and choose "Show in Finder." That will take you right to the file itself.

I believe that I successfully purchased it on my iPhone, but not on my iMac. I tried AirDropping it to the Mac, but it does not appear in my Recently Added folder under Library in my Music app on the iMac. I discovered that I may have had an account issue, so I updated that and am waiting for the purchase to upload. But now my iPhone volume (sound) control is for my Mac - and I have lost volume control on my iPhone!

And thank you so much for your prompt and knowledgeable replies! <3 <3 I'm confident that it will work eventually, once my purchased song is visible. Right now I have no Recently Addeds in my Library.
