Autocorrect almost unusable

How many other people are struggling with autocorrect? For months now it has been far worse than it ever was, and still hasn‘t been fixed. Typing part of a word and then correcting it makes it see the two halves of the word as two words, and tries to correct the two halves!! This seems to be worst in WhatsApp Web, for some reason, I‘ll take notice whether it happens elsewhere too but as I type this in this form here it‘s working correctly. It will also try to capitalize the first letter of a word after deleting some letters, as though it thinks you are starting a new sentence, and in WhatsApp Web it always thinks the first word of the next message is attached to the last word of the last message, so ‘learns’ some crazy new words, made up of the two! Add to that the fact of being unable to delete these nonsense words and it’s getting very messy!

Hi Edembers,

It looks like you are inside of a third party app. Does the issue occur in other apps as well? If the issue is only occurring in third party apps, then we'd recommend contacting the app developer by completing the steps listed here: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support that are also below.

" Contact the developer of an iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS app

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID. "

Cheers!

Hello Edembers,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. With the feature of Auto-Correction not functioning as expected, we recommend to reset the keyboard dictionary. This may help resolve the behavior you're experiencing. Here are the steps on how reset the keyboard dictionary:

Reset your personal dictionary
Go to Settings  > General > Reset.
Tap Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
All custom words and shortcuts are deleted, and the keyboard dictionary returns to its default state.

These steps are outlined in this helpful article: Save keystrokes with text replacements on iPad - Apple Support

Kind regards.

Unfortunately that won’t fix the problem, it will only fix the symptom, as well as removing what it has learnt correctly. The problem is that if I type “corrcetl” and then correct myself to “correctly” then it will see “corr” and “ectly” (with no space) and try to correct it!

PS I tried this for the screenshot, and it worked a bit differently from expected. This time the deleted characters remained - you can see below each letter that I typed, including those deleted. This never used to happen until a few months ago

PPPS: Another real world example:

I mistyped “that” which got corrected. But the next word gets attached to the original mistyping (but corrected) of the previous message!

Another example:

This time I started typing but for some unknown reason it failed to capitalize the “P” so I went back to correct this. I then mistyped and had to correct that, with this mess as a result!! Something is badly wrong!
