How to access “Unsupported Note”

I have some notes (folders?) in Notes that I locked a long time ago and had been able to easily unlock. Now when I try to unlock them I can’t. I get the message that it’s an “Unsupported Note” and that to access the Note I have to upgrade to the latest version of iPadOS. I actually have the latest update: iOS 16.3.

This problem didn’t arise until after I upgraded to iOS 16.1.

Even though I haven’t been able to unlock my locked Notes I’ve continued to download software updates and now have iOS 16.3.

I have an iPad Air2 that is several years old. Can anyone tell me how to access my Notes? Thanks.

Hi arain,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're unable to open a locked note due to an alert indicating that the note is unsupported.

Are your notes stored in iCloud? If so, can you access the note when you sign into iCloud via a web browser on a computer? You can sign into iCloud here: Sign In iCloud

If you're able to open the note via a web browser, can you copy the contents of the note and paste it into a new note then open it on your iPad?

Here is a handy resource which will show you how to lock and unlock Notes if you need it: How to lock or unlock notes on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We look forward to your reply.

Cheers!
