LogicPro on M1 - Start/Stop spacebar not working - PLEASE HELP this old man.

Mac mini M1 (2020-Ventura 13.2) - Space bar for Logic Pro does not play or stop the audio anymore. I cannot figure it out. I’ve tried resetting everything but nothing makes any sense to me. I have an older Mac mini (Late 2014 - Monterey 12.6.2) that does NOT have this problem? Space bar for Start/Stop works fine on the old mini, but not my M1. What's up with that?... I'm losing my mind.

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

  1. Open Logic Pro and go to the "Logic Pro" menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Select "Preferences" from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the "Preferences" window, click on the "Key Commands" tab.
  4. In the "Key Commands" tab, find the "Transport" category and click on it.
  5. Look for the "Play/Stop" command in the list of commands.
  6. To set the space bar as the keyboard shortcut for "Play/Stop", click on the current keyboard shortcut (it should say "Space" if it's already assigned) and press the space bar on your keyboard.
  7. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Yes,... I have tried that two times after closing/exiting the app, restarting the computer, and then going back in fresh. I could not change the "Play of Stop" setting on the "Key command Assignments - U.S." screen. I tried multiple times... I'm probably just unable to navigate that screen properly. I need step-by-step detailed instructions, to understand. There's too many options on that screen,... and no navigational guidance for an old geezer like me.

Looks like you're having a bit of trouble with your mini and Logic Pro. Don't worry, I've got some ideas that might help. Here's what you can try:

  1. Double check your Logic Pro settings: Just to make sure, check if the keyboard shortcut for play/stop is set to the space bar in the Logic Pro Preferences.
  2. Resetting time: If you've tried everything and nothing seems to work, try resetting the Logic Pro preferences. To do this, just hold down the Option + Command keys when you open the app. This will set everything back to its default.
  3. Updates, updates, updates: It's always a good idea to make sure you have the latest version of Logic Pro installed. Check the Mac App Store for updates under the Updates tab.
  4. Give your Mac a fresh start: Sometimes all your computer needs is a little restart. Give it a try and see if that helps.
  5. Keyboard swap: If you can, try using a different keyboard and see if the space bar works as expected in Logic Pro. If it does, then the issue might be with your keyboard.
  6. If none of these steps do the trick, don't hesitate to reach out to Apple support for more help. They'll be able to guide you through the issue and get you back to making music in no time!
