Mac Ventura firewall resetting

I am new to Mac. Honestly I’m new to computers, the last one I owned it was a PC and it was 14 years ago.

I should preface this by saying I owned an android at one point, android was hacked and I spent years of my life trying to clear the wreckage. From bank accounts to fake accounts on social media; understand that I am a paranoid person.

when I got my Mac I turned on this firewall, seems awesome that it is built-in. But every time I go back and look at the firewall and click options the toggle that I have turned on seem to be turned off. For instance stealth mode. I will turn it on, everything is fine. My computer will either go into sleep mode or even after I’ve used it for 15 minutes I can go back and check and stealth mode will be turned off. The same goes for the setting block all incoming connections. So I’m naturally paranoid and pretty confused.

since I don’t really understand how to make anything work I am at a loss.

I’m hoping someone on here;

Can help me understand why it keeps resetting.

How/if I can stop it from doing that.

If your willing; provide me any other information on security settings that I would be wise to set up.

Maybe just general information that someone who is new could benefit from.

I appreciate you in advance.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.2

Just a bit more information. When I open the firewall settings and enable stealth mode; or if I change which applications allow incoming connections they will stay at that setting. But when I close system settings. When I actually close the window is when it will revert back. Anything else I change stays. If I give an app debility to give me notifications, close system settings and go back in it’s still has the ability to send notifications. So it is just the firewall settings that keep going back to default when I close system settings. It has allow incoming connections from control center app and Steam. I can’t revoke either of them because anytime I close settings it just reverts.
