In general it backs up the App’s “DATA” as well as the record that you have an app license.
If you ever “restore” … or obtain a new/replacement phone …
The data itself will be restored from your backup, and you’ll then see all of your licensed apps automatically download and self-install.
The restored data marries-up w/ the just downloaded app and Voilà you’re up and running again.
