Whatsapp backup not enough iphone storage

Hello,

I have an Iphone 14 Pro Max 256GB, I'm trying to create a whatsapp backup of 39.99GB to my icloud where I currently have over 200GB of free space available, but I'm getting the following error "Not enough iphone storage, free up 39.38GB of storage space on your iphone to back up your charts"

This is confusing and frustrating, why do I need the free space on my phone when the backup is going straight to iCloud? even I free up the space required, I will still get the same error. Is there anything I can do please?

please find attached screen shot which required, i have enough space but when i want to backup of my whatsapp data then not enough iphone storage shown at the screen.

please find the solution and solve query.

Many thanks

Hi Kamranaslam,

If you are having trouble creating a WhatsApp backup, verify the information below is accurate, especially the requirements as it looks like your iPhone doesn't have enough free space rather than iCloud:

"Manual backup

You can make a manual backup of your chats at any time.

Go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Back Up Now.

Automatic backup

You can enable automatic, scheduled backups by tapping Auto Backup and choosing your backup frequency.

This will back up your chats and media to your iCloud account. You can choose to include or exclude videos from the backup. The iCloud backup process can take a while to complete, depending on your Internet connection and backup size.

Requirements

  • You must be signed in with the Apple ID you use to access iCloud.
  • You must have iOS 12 or newer and iCloud Drive must be turned on.
  • There must be enough free space on both your iCloud and iPhone. You need to have at least 2.05 times the space available in your iCloud account and on your phone than the actual size of your backup.

If you're concerned about your cellular data usage, we recommend that you limit your iCloud to only back up on Wi-Fi."
