Changing start page background in Safari 15.6.1

Somehow a shopping cart image became the background on my Safari start page. The version I am running (15.6.1) does not have those buttons on the bottom right corner. How can I fix this?

Thanks. The issue I was having was that the Options button was not showing up on my page. I tried everything. I even ended up updating to Big Sur in order to get a newer version of Safari. BUT Big Sur was terrible. Ended up using my TimeMachine backup to return to Catalina.

I had an appt. scheduled with the Genius Bar at my local store but got an idea this morning. Put a photo on my desktop. Slid it over my Favorites page. Voila. Offending image gone and replaced. Somehow inadvertently a desktop screen image of a shopping cart got slid over my Favorites page. I had no idea that had happened. Now I actually do have those Option buttons appearing and a lovely image as background instead of a stupid shopping cart page. Cancelled appt. and am all good and happily back to Catalina.

Hey there Rosebud3,

Use the steps below to help with setting up a background in Safari:

1. In the Safari app  on your Mac, choose Bookmarks > Show Start Page.
2. Click the Options button  in the bottom-right corner of the window.
• Background Image: You can choose a provided image, or choose one of your photos (the first option on the left). If the first option shows an Add button , click it to choose one of your photos. If the first option shows a previously chosen photo, click the Close button  to choose a different photo.
You can also drag a photo onto the start page.
