Lightening port to audio jack still not working.

I’ve just upgraded from an iPhone 10 to a 14 Pro and STILL the lightening adapter to audio jack DOES NOT input audio properly. Upon inserting adapter the iphone asks what it should be Headphones or “other” selecting Other should be correct because you want to CAPTURE audio coming IN to the phone. NOT sending audio to headphones.

There is NO dust or debris in these devices. Please stop telling people to clean their phones. This is SOFTWARE and HARDWARE issues.

What is the fix? Even GarageBand won’t recognize any audio source coming into thru the lighting adapter.

This is a broken feature that has been present for years.

An update is not the solution or capability.

It’s also 2023, please don’t suggest people to power cycle, reboot, or update their phones or devices to solve a problem. That’s the most unhelpful help ever and honestly insulting.

The product has never worked as intended.

The item is meant to both send AND receive audio.

iOS asks what you want to use it as when connected.

“Other” is the option.

This is meant to allow recording INTO Garageband and any other native Apple audio / video software.

iOS software is the problem.

ALL hardware items are new and perfect.

The issue has existed for multiple iPhone models and iOS versions.

Using a regular RCA to headphone jack into the iPhone produces either no sound or cutting in and out and switching back and forth.

Using a RCA & Video connector cable but only connecting the audio produces audio distortion and going back and firth between input and sending.

The lightening port is designed to INPUT as well as output.

The headphone dongle is designed to send and receive.

It fails to operate as intended. Other users experience this as well, but all those posts are locked.

Do you have an actual suggestion to the actual problem?

Hey there Skanzo,

The first link we wanted to provide was one which enables you to submit any product feedback you'd like to be considered by Apple: Product Feedback

Regarding your question about using the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter as a way to input sound, we wanted to confirm more details to better understand what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. When was the last time it worked in this manner on your iPhone? Please keep in mind that this accessory was made to output sound to 3.5mm headphones through a Lightning connection.
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.3. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!
