Pairing refurbished Apple Watch

Hi, I’m having issues trying to pair a refurbished Apple Watch series 7 with my iPhone 7 Plus.

I get a message “iPhone out of date- this watch requires a newer version of iOS”. I have updated phone to latest iOS & restarted both phone & Watch. I’ve tried a manual pair, but that doesn’t work either. Hoping someone can help, please!

This means the watch you purchased has been updated to WatchOS 9 and for it to pair with an iPhone, it will require and iPhone which can run iOS 16 or higher. You have an older iPhone, which is NOT capable of being updated past iOS 15.7.x, so the watch will not pair with your iPhone.

Either return the watch for refund, or purchase a newer, more modern iPhone.
