SSD issues with macbook air m1

Hi im having a problem formating/erasing my external ssd in my Macbook air m1 to "Mac Os Extended (journaled).

Ive tried several methods on youtube. But nothing lets me erase/format the mac without me receving the message "Wiping volume data to prevent future accidental probing failed. : (-69825)"

but ive run first aid and the hardrive is working + checked on windows and its working - it even worked on my last mac, Macbook m1 pro.

What or why the reason to reformat the external drive to begin with ...?

if the drive has failed then that is one reason it is not functioning as expected or catastrophic corruption.

The resolve would be to replace the drive.

I would expect to see more information here—

diskutil list external

Other possibilities— bad cable, bad enclosure...

if it is working from your Windows machine , you can try reformatting from that device and try again.

Also, not all devices are compatible with an M1 Mac. I know some users reported issues with certain external Samsung SSDs when used with an M1 Mac back in 2020 when the M1 Macs first launched. One user had two seemingly identical Samsung SSDs, but upon further inspection discovered they were manufactured at different times and I believe utilized a different USB chipset. The older version was not compatible nor work properly, but the later version worked fine.

Also, try disconnecting all other external devices in case one of them is interfering. I know there have been reports of Wacom tablets causing problems with external drives (the drives seem to work fine as long as the tablet is not connected when the drive is connected, but both devices work if the tablet is connected after the drives are mounted).
