iphone and ipad can’t connect to airline wifi

I could not connect to american airline wifi (11 pro, ipad pro) with last ios update (15) all last year (an could not on other airlines as well). Currently I have a new phone (14 pro and same ipad pro) with ios 16.2 and could not connect on the wifi on my flight. Network showed up but when I selected it, it seemed to connect for several seconds, then gave me the “no internet connection”. I had already disabled the private relay under icloud setting. I had also deleted and reinstalled the app prior to getting on the flight. My friend sitting next to me had no problems connecting (I disabled her private relay before the flight took off). Please let me know if there is anything else I can try.

I've not had any problems on domestically and international flights.

You don't mention whether you followed the instructions in the back of the AA magazine on board, but they go as follows:

1) Connect to the AA-inflight Wi-Fi signal

2) Open your browser and wait a few seconds for a page to open with options to connect to onboard entertainment only or choose an available Internet connection for a limited time or the duration of the flight.

Note.....VPN and Private relay are not enabled on the iOS devices. I don't use VPN on my Mac laptop.

Hi OHL1975,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

It's difficult to speculate why you are unable to connect to these airline Wi-Fi networks. Do you have a VPN enabled? It's possible that could prevent connection.

If you are connecting to other Wi-Fi networks, then the issue would be isolated to these captive networks. You can learn more about captive Wi-Fi networks here: Use captive Wi-Fi networks on your iPhone or iPad.

"How to join a captive Wi-Fi network

  1. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the name of the network, then wait for a login screen to appear. Or tap the More Info button next to the network's name, then tap Join Network.
  3. If asked, enter a user name and password, enter an email address, or acknowledge terms and conditions.

After you log in, you should be able to access the internet. Fees and other charges might apply when you use captive Wi-Fi networks. Contact the network provider for more information."

We would advise updating so we can rule out the latest incident being related to an outdated version of iOS: Update your iPhone or iPad.

If you still can't connect after updating to iOS 16.3, contact Apple Support for a deeper dive.

Have a fantastic day!

The problem is that I cannot make it pass your step 1, which is connect to the AA WiFi. When I click on it, it gives me a check as if it’s connecting , but it always pops up the “no internet service” under the AA-WiFi. “I followed all the AA instructions. I have the AA app. In previous years I have been able to connect on AA WiFi flights so I do know how to do this. Again, no browser or log-in page loads up.
