So on 1st February my challenge popped up on my watch (close all 3 rings 31 times, which of course is impossible)
now the challenge has completely disappeared from both my watch and iPhone fitness app
I’ve tried updating software and turning both devices off and on again
does anyone have any ideas? I’ve completed my monthly challenges for over 3 years now so would be a shame to miss one

Given the steps you've taken so far, if the challenge has not re-appeared, we'd advise contacting Apple Support directly for this issue. They'll be able to take a look at your account and may have options regarding the February challenge.

Me too - tired of these challenges working intermittently. Anyway, if it was showing 31 days for February, which I had not noticed, no one will get the badge.
