Workout disappearing from Activity app later in the day

Hi, I have an IPhone 14 Pro Max running IOS 16.2 and Apple Watch 4 running watchIOS 9.3. I’ve recently noticed in the last few weeks that I will work out in the morning and my activity counter on my watch and phone show the calories from the workout… but at some point in the afternoon those calories disappear.

for example today I worked out for an hour on the stair master from 7-8 am, burning 726 calories, and it’s logged in my activity app. My active calories showed in the 900’s on my watch until about 4pm and then all of a sudden most of my active calories disappeared and my total active calories dropped to 420 something. The workout is still showing in the activity app summary, but if you look in the health data for the time period I was working out, it’s no longer showing I was doing anything during that time period. I tried unpairing the watch and repairing it…recalibrating my fitness information… made sure all of the correct buttons in privacy on the watch app and in my settings are on.

i can’t figure out why it’s just disappearing.

a few screenshots. First is my workout from 7-8am. Second is later in the day when it’s saying I only burned 59 calories in that time period, not 726. Last is where it shows my total active calories today are only 446, but literally right below shows a 726 calorie workout.

Hello RebeccaJHeath,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to make sure the Activity app is working perfectly for you.

First, please check for any pending iOS updates, which can help make sure the software is working as expected. See here:

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

This Apple Support page can help get those updates installed: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue continues, please reach out to an Apple Support Advisor for further assistance: Get Support

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
