Continuity Camera Issue, iPhone listed as option to use but won't actually work.

Hello,

I am trying to use the feature, I have a 2020 MacBook Air 2020 running Ventura 13.2 and my iPhone 13 is running 16.3. What happens is that in FaceTime or Zoom I am seeing my iPhone camera listed as an option to use but when it is selected then Zoom freezes or FaceTime just goes black as if to indicate the apps are not recognizing the camera selection. I am hearing the jingle too to let me know the feature is enabled but still nothing. I even go to the notification center on my mac and I select the top-down view feature which opens up that dedicated app on my mac and then it'll say the connection was lost even though I am still seeing the little green dot next to my notification center icon that indicates the continuity camera feature is still on.

I have tried turning off wifi and bluetooth to both devices and then switching them back on, I have tried restarting the macbook, I have tried turning off and back on the continuity camera setting on my iphone, I have tried connecting my iPhone to my mac via USB-C.

I do also have an external webcam hooked up, I don't know why that would cause an issue, it's the webcam my macbook is actually recognizing, but I have not tried unplugging it and seeing if that makes a difference. I also have not tried turning off wifi and bluetooth, restarting, and then turning both settings back on once it has restarted. I have only tried turning those settings off and then immediately back on. The phone is always in the "magic pose" and I have tried cameras to the bottom left and to the top right but neither work for me, not even once. Hoping there is an actual fix out there. My macbook is a work-provided computer so I doubt there are any settings that would be disabled that would prevent me from using continuity camera. Both devices are signed into the same Apple ID and both have 2FA enabled too.

Hi emharper1992,

Does this persist in another user account on your Mac? You can learn how to create one here:

"Add a user

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to the computer or change settings. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change options in File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management settings. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.

For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.

4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.

5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.

6. Click Create User."
