I have forgotten the Mac password, AND have forgotten the Apple ID password I was using at that time.
It won’t accept my current Apple ID email/password combo, despite being connected to the internet.
How can I reset the Mac password when I can log into my Apple ID?

Thanks so much. I’m not quite there yet, but I can get to verify me by sending me a code to my phone.
It just fails to go through due to a server error 😅 Will try again later and run some troubleshooting around that.
I’m not saying the passwords are the same, but that I have forgotten them both.
The first option to reset the Mac password is to use my Apple ID.
It isn’t accepting my current password for my Apple ID either (despite those details being accurate and usable everywhere else). I’ve tried all the older ones I can think of (haven’t even opened it up in 2+ years).

Your Mac password is not necessarily your Apple ID password.
Where are you trying to use your Apple ID when accessing your old Mac?
