Airdrop - No People Found

So after around 45m of restarting my phone, turning btooth off and on, connecting my ipad & mac, opening btooth preferences, connecting to ipad, I was finally able to airdrop from phone to ipad. Everything is showing as connected between pad and mac - every single time I hit air drop pad shows 'no people found'. Have also restarted mac and pad a dozen times or so. It would honestly be quicker to send a carrier pigeon. Still struggling to find benefits of a mac. All I keep finding is things that just, do, not, work. Simple functions take on average 60m more time. Very, very frustrated! Thanks for any help.
