Emails going to wrong inbox

I have several email accounts -- AOL, iCloud, Gmail. All of a sudden (after years) some of my AOL mail is being sent to my iCloud email inbox. Not all of it, just some of it. These emails are addressed to the AOL address, but Mac Mail is putting them into my iCloud inbox. I've never used the iCloud email for anything and cannot figure out why this is happening all of a sudden. I've also have some issues with attachments not coming thru and have to rebuild the mailbox constantly, but that is minor compared to emails going to the wrong inbox. I've deleted the AOL mail from my Mac and reinstalled it, but didn't help. And upgraded to Monterey. Anyone have any thoughts? Help please!

Thanks for getting back to us Auntbingo99, it’s appreciated.

First, we want to be sure that iCloud Mail hasn’t been turned on: Set up iCloud Mail on all your devices - Apple Support

Set up iCloud Mail on your Mac
1. On your Mac, do one of the following:
macOS Ventura: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click [your name] at the top of the sidebar, then click iCloud on the right.
macOS 12 or earlier: Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Apple ID, then click iCloud.
2. If you want to send and receive iCloud Mail on your Mac, click iCloud Mail, then click Turn On or select iCloud Mail (or Mail).

If it wasn’t, remove the AOL account, restart your Mac, then add it back again:

Log out of or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

If your AOL email still goes through iCloud, we recommend contacting Apple Support to look into this issue further with you: Get Support

All the best.

Hey Auntbingo99,

In that case, another suggestion would be to check to see if there might be a rule that is causing your emails to be sorted in to the iCloud inbox. You can find and edit existing rules from Mail > Settings > Rules. Highlight a description, then click Edit in the right sidebar to see which rules are being applied. For more information on using rules check out Use rules to manage emails you receive in Mail on Mac - Apple Support.

If no rules are found or if that does not seem to be the issue after checking existing rules, reach out to Apple Support for a closer look at the issue.

Cheers!

Thanks for responding. My iCloud email is/has always been turned on on my Mac. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly what you're trying to suggest I do. But, if I were to turn it off then I would not receive mail from these senders. At least I'm receiving them in the wrong inbox. Before posting here I did remove the AOL account from my Mac and then added it back in.

Thanks for the input. I did look at rules already. And nothing there that hasn't been there for 5 years. The odd thing with this is it is not ALL of the emails from the two senders, just some of the time. Very strange. And as long as I get the emails delivered it really doesn't matter. But my concern is that eventually that will change and I will not be getting them any longer.
