Flickering of One Side of the Display

There's like a constant flicker + line of disrupted display on the left side of my Macbook Air M1 (barely 2 years old, in great condition). Started off after I installed to the latest version of the Mac OS & after taking it to the service centre i've been told it'll cost 500$ to replace the piece (only guaranteeing a fix for 90 days at best). This kind of seems like a farce, and I can see multiple users across the messaging boards facing this issue! There has to be some other solve as an error can't happen in Apple's legendary hardware all of a sudden right?

Thanks for the inputs Nick, I tried doing just this but it didn't help.

I went to the support centre near my house & they're saying the display needs to be replaced and that's a sweet 500$ cost (about a third of the price i paid for this 2 years ago, since i'm out of warranty)

Surely Apple products can't be THIS inferior that they start showing issues after moderate use within 2 years of purchase?

Clearly seems like to me as if it's some ram issue since the display where it glitches is showing remnants of earlier screen displays (resembles a browser in the background).

This is really disheartening to experience after hearing so much about great products from Apple, surely there must be another solve?

UPDATE: After visiting the service centre (who BTW gave minimal explanation as to what exactly the matter is and what caused it to happen) they only had one solution, which is replace the display of my existing device.

that costs an amount i'm just not willing to stump up, especially given how little i've actually used the device that i had hoped would last me for years (also, the guarantee of the new display unit is only 90 days, so stumping up 500$ for a component that is very likely to not last me again makes zero sense.)

Next up, the device when returned to me has further worsened within 1 day of keeping it in their care and diagnostics, now the screen has flickering lines ALL ACROSS it rather than just on one side of the display and the explanation for that by the service rep is simply that it was going to get worse with time & you have no other option but to pay up or deal with this as it gets worse.

I'm really appalled with my experience using an M1 A2337 Macbook Air and whoever in the future ever asks me about Mac product, will definitely hear about the beautiful experience i've had. In fact, I intend to make sure people see how ****** the product is as much as i can spread the word, IF this is the way customers are to be treated.

Try and boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the problem persists

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
  4. Select a volume.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
  6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
