Why doesn't my Apple TV App on my MacBook mirror my Apple TV box on my Television?

What is the version macOS on the MacBook?

What type of content were you trying to stream? Which content provider?

What happens instead? Do you get an error message? What does it say?

Are you trying to screen mirror from your Mac to the Apple TV box?

  • Using in-app ‘basic’ AirPlay, you can stream from the Mac TV app, QuickTime Player, Safari web video, or a few other apps, to AirPlay-enabled devices, using the in-app AirPlay button/icon.
  • Using AirPlay Screen Mirroring, you can send what is on your Mac screen to AirPlay-enabled devices (unless the content is blocked). Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV - Apple Support.

Not all content can be screen mirrored. Select streaming content providers may block web streams from mirroring to other devices. The Apple DVD Player blocks AirPlay screen mirroring. Thus it depend on what you intend to stream. Consider if an app on Apple TV is available for that same service.

Thank you for the clarification.

The Apple TV app on Mac doesn’t support “connected apps”, as different from iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Apple TV box. Content from third party apps will not appear in Up Next in the Apple TV app on Mac, as it doesn’t have those connected apps on that device.

It is one of the differences; it’s filtered out. Watch your Amazon Prime Video/Disney+/HBO Max/etc. outside the Apple TV app on Mac e.g. in a browser, or on a different device.

Hello: Thanks for your replay. I've might have used "Mirror" in the wrong context. Here's my issue. On my Apple TV box connected to my television in Watch Now you have, under Up Next, all the TV or Movie programs you're current watching. On my MacBook with the Apple TV App I'm only seeing a partial amount of the same programs.

This is why I used the word Mirror in my original note. I should be able to watch all the same programs no matter what device I'm using; shouldn't I?
