Document aliases only show generic icons...

I´m running Ventura 13.2 on an iMac. I haven´t needed to create aliases in years, but have started doing so as I´m re-organising my documents. I notice that the aliases only show as generic icons, as my screen shot below shows. I can´t remember if this is normal behaviour. This isn´t a big deal but I´d prefer the icons to show a preview. More Mac-like!?

Is there anything I can do or is this now standard OS behaviour when creating an alias? “Show Preview” is turned on, I´ve quit the Finder and have started up in Safe Mode and made aliases. No preview. I assume there might be a corrupt .plist or preference file somewhere, but don´t want to tinker without some expert advice! Thanks for any help! Cheers!
