My new Studio with Ventura has 1TB memory. However, when I check to see how much memory is free, I get this data (attached).
Capacity: 999GB
Available: 572GB
Used: 659GB
That does not add up.
I restarted, but get the same data. Any ideas?

That's storage, not memory. Go to the ➙ menu and elect About This Mac. The first window will show you how much memory you have:
Click on the More Info button and at the bottom of the next window you'll see how much storage you have and how much is used:

You have purgeable space that the system will purge if it deems it needs it. That may be the discrepancy.
You can try reindexing the drive for Spotlight and see if the number fall more into line: How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks. I'm sorry I used 'memory' instead of storage.
The storage numbers then do not seem to add up, according to the photo I attached.
Forgive me if this is a trivia question. I just noticed that gmail is taking up 102GB storage on my new Studio.
I've done some research, and will do some more, but do you know if there is a simple way to delete 5 years of gmail from my Studio, but it is still safely on Google?

Thanks. I had trouble with Spotlight and index before when I mistakenly clicked on iCloud. That took a while to clear up. I mainly just wanted to know that I have enough storage on my new Studio. Keep mainly the new work on Studio, and leave the old stuff on my old 27.
