iPhone camera jpeg picture quality / post processing

Hi,

I hope this is in the right topic but here we go.

I recently made the jump and purchased a brand new iphone 13 mini for myself. I generally really like the phone and love the smaller dimensions.

Previously for my old job they provided me with a iphone 6 plus (too big for my small hands) and used something else for my own personal private use.

But I have one complaint that I have seen pop up constantly from other people too and that is what iOS 16 is doing to the photos.

It seems that all the photos taken with these phones there is a LOT of post processing applied; Mostly sharpening, increasing contrast and a boost of the shadow details.

This isn't just viewing the photos but if you drag the jpeg's onto a computer this post processing is all too evident.

This would be ok IF you could turn all of this off, every photo looks way too HDR and the colours are always over saturated and far too contrasty. For any one who ever used film, this is like using Fuji Velvia in terms of colour rendition and then some lol

This is very disappointing because even my old iPhone 6 Plus was able to take better looking photos and even the cheapest modern entry level android phone is able to shoot uncompressed RAW without shelling out for the Pro model.

Ultimately the camera hardware on the iphone is I believe to be very good but ultimately let down by the software which is altering the files too much. I would love to see this updated to rectify the issue or heck even be able to shoot RAW without purchasing the PRO models. After all these are premium phones in a market place which is even more competitive now at especially at these price points.

Cheers,

Martin
