M2 MacBook Air 512GB storage single NAND or dual?
Hi, does M2 MacBook Air 512GB storage use single NAND (512GB) which makes it a slower SSD, or dual (2x 256GB NAND) resulting in a faster SSD? Thanks - Ben

Oh wow that’s great info.
By the way do you think this single chip NAND would be an issue for a casual user like me — running large video on slide presentation, YouTube, multiple tabs etc.
I don’t do video editing or coding.
what I actually plan to buy is M2 MacBook Air 16GB 512GB SSD. For portability.
:-)

Very few people on these forums will realize you are talking about a single NAND chip for the SSD instead of dual NAND chips making up a single SSD. Apple doesn't publish that information and it was only discovered by some owners of the MBAir M2 256GB model. AFAIK, at this time only the 256GB model has a single NAND chip making up the SSD:

Hello heart_kl,
Use the following technical specifications for the M2 MacBook Air: MacBook Air (M2, 2022) - Technical Specifications
Storage
256GB SSD
Configurable to 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB
1 B (bel) = 10 dB (decibel).
It does not use dual drives.
Wishing you well, take care.
Actually just stumbled across this which shows the MBPro 512GB model appears to be only utilizing a single NAND chip so I would advise caution and lots of research if a single NAND chip for an SSD is a concern for you:
Personally I find using a single NAND chip for an SSD to be the sign of a low end product.
Edit: Just to clarify, the link & new information is regarding the MacBook Pro. But if the Pro line is utilizing the same tricks, then lower end models will be more likely to suffer the same or worse fate. The Air is a lower end model.
Hi destiny241
thanks, you wrote “1 B (bel) = 10 dB (decibel).”
— hmm why do we have decibel in the specification?
heart_kl,
We're glad they were able to answer your question.
That must have been copied by mistake from the previously provided link.
It's under the section titled acoustic performance.
Cheers!
Thank you,
Are you and destiny241 part of
Apple team?
With regards to 512GB SSD only utilizes single chip NAND slot — would be an official reply from Apple ya?

All right. Cool! Your answer is the most standard explanation I found on the net too :-) thanks
