I deauthorized ALL previous devices from my Apple ID. when I try to authorize my current devices I keep getting the YOU CANNOT AUTHORIZE MORE THAN 5 COMPUTERS. You have already authorized 5 computers with this Apple ID.
what the heck am I supposed to do?

Contact Official Apple Support. You're only able to use the deauthorize all command once a year. You can try again, but it seems like it didn't take. Support should be able to reset everything for you.

Did you use the deauthorize all command in your account in iTunes, or perhaps remove computers from the list of associated devices that you can find elsewhere. See Authorization vs. association - Apple Community for some background on these two mechanisms. Reach out to Official Apple Support for further assistance if required.

I Simply used the dropdown to Deauthorize This Computer. once logged in, I clicked the Deauthorize All Devices to remove old discarded computers and iPhones that were listed and start fresh. however I'm stuck in some grey nebulous environment status where iTunes insists that I still have "5 Computers Authorized".
