Universal Control issues (disconnecting constantly)
Hi,
I recently purchased my first Mac + Ipad Pro M1 after being a life long Linux and Windows user. The main reason for me to move to Apple products is the promise of the new Universal Control feature, which sounds awesome on paper. The company I work for only allows for company e-mail and Teams to work on mobile devices, and since the iPad is considered as one it sounded like a perfect combination where I can seamlessly write/receive e-mails and initiate meetings on the iPad but do my main work on the Macbook Pro.
However, unfortunately it does not work that well for me. The initial pairing works most of the time (but not every time), but my main issue is that it keeps loosing the UC connection. I've had multiple occasions where I'm in a meeting, trying to copy something from the Teams chat just to find out the pairing has been lost.
What makes this worse is that I have the iPad under my external screen on the left side, and every time the Universal Control looses the pairing it also looses the display arrangement done on the Macbook also goes out the window making it even more bothersome.
I have:
- Gone through the prerequisite list (should be OK!)
- I have set the Universal Control to automatically reconnect
- Some places have recommended not using clamshell mode on the Macbook (in itself not an acceptable requirement if you ask me), but it still drops the connection.
- Both are connected to the same wifi, Asus router placed 2m from me.
I keep reading how well it seems to work for everyone else, so wondering what might be going on here. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
Thanks!
Patrick
