Reset Fitness Calibration Data question for Apple Watch series 6

Hello, I have a series 6 Apple Watch GPS no cellular. Recently I had to re-pair the watch to my phone and I’ve noticed that ever since some of the fitness data, calories/move specifically, isn’t tracking the way it was before I had to unpair/re-pair.

I’ve tried several other methods to remedy the problem but nothing works. Right now it’s either try another unpair/re-pair or use the Reset Fitness Calibration Data function.

I want to try the “Reset Fitness Calibration Data” option first but when I hit the button to do so I get the warning message “this will result in less accurate measurements of activity and workouts”.

First, what exactly does that message mean and second will doing that retroactively affect my historical data or just the data going forward from the reset. Will it look back and say “on this day 3 weeks ago you hit your goal but using the reset parameters you no longer did”? I have a near 700 day streak on my calories burned goal and would hate to lose it.

any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hello Paul755,

That message means that after you reset the calibration data, your watch will initially have less accurate workout results until it is calibrated again. As you use an Apple Watch, it is constantly using measurements like your stride length, and heart rate to generate an average data point and use that to better estimate your activity. This is especially important for workouts where an actual distance (GPS) data point is not available, like walking on a treadmill for example.

After you reset the calibration data, you can recalibrate it right away with these steps:

1. While wearing your Apple Watch, go to a flat, open outdoor area that offers good GPS reception and clear skies.
2. If you have Apple Watch Series 2 or later, you just need your Apple Watch.* If you have Apple Watch Series 1 or earlier, bring your iPhone for GPS. Hold your iPhone in your hand, or wear it on an armband or waistband.
3. Open the Workout app, then tap Outdoor Walk or Outdoor Run. To set a goal before starting, tap the ... icon.
4. Walk or run at your normal pace for about 20 minutes.

Resetting the calibration data would have no effect on past data that has already been logged in the Activity app.

Cheers!
