Ventura not detecting external HDD

I updated AIR M2 to Ventura 13.1 and it doesnt detect any external SSD HDD through type c. I have tested the same SSD on an M1 on Monastery OS , it works fine. I hav also tested the type C ports with another thumb drive and it id fine. Why Ventura is not detecting the SSD. Not detected on DiskUtility. Tried everything Googlely possible but no result. Has anyone facing such issue ? or is there anyone with the solution..

are you using any of the manufacturer's preloaded software on the drive (or installed such software yourself) that supposedly makes the drive "Mac ready"? if yes, that could be the cause of your issue. when you use software from just about any manufacturer for their storage device you run the risk of that same software not being compatible with macOS updates / upgrades. it can cause the software to stop working. at best this will cause you a headache. at worst it can render your data inaccessible. it is always best to use disk utility to erase and format a drive before use to remove any preloaded software.

if you are using such software, i think your options are somewhat limited.

you may want to contact the manufacturer and see if there is an update for their software.

alternatively, if you have a backup you can revert your macOS to the version of macOS that the drive was working on and transfer your data to another storage device and then erase and format the device before putting it back into service.

I'm having a similar issue, I just updated to Ventura 13.2 from 13.1 TODAY and can no longer access external SSD's. I'm able to access my external M.2 NVME drive but not devices like a Sandisk T6 or any other 2.5 SSD's

I have tried various USBC cables 3 and 4 without success. I tried the same USBC4 port that the NVME drive is on and it does not detect it.

Another test, I connected the Sandisk T6 drive to my ipad without issue

I also tried the Privacy and Security setting in always allowing access to accessories, prior to that it prmopted and I accepted the Sandisk drive but it still does not show up

Found this post, which solved my problem with 13.2 not seeing some/most of my external drives:

  1. Boot you Apple Silicon Mac into Recovery Mode by holding the Power Button until you see a dark screen with an icon of your startup drive and an "Options" icon / wheel.
  2. Click on the "Options" icon / wheel -> a "continue" button appears beneath it
  3. Click on "Continue"
  4. You'll see a screen labeled "macOS Recovery". Select a user you know the password for and click "Next"
  5. Enter the respective password
  6. Now you are in the "Recovery" app. Do not click on any of the icons on the screen, but rather go to the menu bar and select "Utilities" -> "Startup Security Utility" from the menu
  7. Select your startup drive
  8. In case your drive is encrypted: Click on the "unlock" button (you will then need to enter a user password to unlock the drive)
  9. Click on the "Security Policy" button
  10. Click on the "Full Security" radio button and click "OK"
  11. Restart your Mac
