I want to be able to access the files I copy from my Mac to the Portable Drive while traveling and it seems the time machine wouldn't work. Unfortunately, I configured this portable drive as such and now, I cannot copy any files.
Can you tell me how do undo the Time Machine setup on my portable drive? Thank you

To stop using the drive for Time Machine, simply erase it: Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support.
However, you should use Time Machine so you have a backup of your Mac! I wouldn't recommend you not have any backup of your Mac.

Never use one drive for TM and also to hold other files. If it fails you lose all. To erase a TM drive you should first go to the TM preference pane and select the drive then click on remove this drive as a TM backup. Then use disk utilities to erase and format to use as a normal drive.
yes, that is what I thought, but it seems I cannot use the Portable Drive as a Time Machine and as a regular file storage device at the same time, correct?
Unfortunately, when I tried to reformat the Portable drive, for some reason it did not provide me with this option of erasing it.
