Contact previous owner of a device

Hi,

I have bought a MacBook Pro 2020 from an individual.

On the spot, I have checked that the laptop isn't connected to any iCloud account but I forgot to check the Find My Mac option.

It was working when I was with the seller but I wanted to reset it and needed to activate an option: the full protection (from Command+R menu, at the start).

Now that I tried to reset it, I am stuck because the laptop seems to be linked to someone else iCloud account.

Is Apple able to contact the original owner? I am not asking to get the person details but to know if they could directly contact the person and ask if the laptop was indeed sold to the person I have bought it from? And if yes, if they could remove the laptop from their account?

I do not have the contact of the original owner and I have doubts the seller do have them.

In the case the original owner confirm it was stolen, I would like to report it to the police.

Did anyone have such issue? If yes, how did you manage to solve it?
