Ventura 13.0 Apple mail creating blank windows

[will try to give all details] Using Ventura 13.0 on a new M1 iMac [with second screen LG ultrafine], while composing using Mail, suddenly a new window will come up in front which cannot be edited or closed... only minimized. This happens while typing but I don't think I am hitting any spurious keys... happens often... can't tie to anything specific.

Does not seem to be related to second screen [still could be - please help] typing a new email on either screen will create new blank window... always created on the [left] second screen... while the mail app inbox window is located on either screen.

When blank window comes up i am alerted because further keystrokes get an alert sound - meaning the active window is now the blank window which doesn't accept any typing. To continue message i was typing. i minimize blank window or click on my intended active message window to continue.

See attached screen captures

The active surprise blank window has topmost Bar with active buttons :

red/yellow/green radio buttons

red darkens on click but doesn't do anything

yellow minimizes and adds new item each time under Windows menu named 'untitled'

green will go fullscreen and back as usual

The expected addressing lines

To: Cc: Bcc: Subject: From: do NOT appear under the top bar.

Minimized or not, these "untitled" windows stay until i quit the mail application - they do no reappear on startup of Mail.

Super annoying - end up with long list of active background windows in the Windows list and constantly interrupting typing. Would like to avoid these surprise bank windows.

thanks KV

attaching screen captures of blank window, Window menus on left and right. Note Window menu checkmark and no mark line items are different in each case.

I had the same problem but my blank windows would not disappear when I closed and relaunched the Mail app. I could never get rid of them, only minimize them. Did a lot of troubleshooting and repair attempts without success. Finally discovered the problem was caused by an email stuck in the outbox of one of my email accounts. Removing the unsent email fixed the problem. (!?!)

I would close out all tabs and windows you can in Mail

Quit Mail and relaunch the Mail.app holding the Shift key down.

Verify you have the view option you want to see Mail>View> Use Column Layout (old)... there is a bottom Preview option.

The newer Layout the preview screen is on the right side (a 3-column view)

side notes:

Command N is the short cut to open a new mail window— avoid it if that is your issue.

If Safari is involved Qiot the app as well and relaunch it

Thank you for that idea... I did not know about the 3-column layout.. would have better on my 27"

iMac - [ apple: why no 27" M1 option?? ] but very efficient for sure

One important observation since i last wrote...

the blank window appeared when i was not even touching the keyboard... Mail is doing it by itself.

Must have to do with managing the two screens and some kind of refresh.... maybe a bug for multiple screens

or this LG unit although i believe i got this display from apple store website as a compatible

a blank mail window just appeared while typing this in safari !

see if anyone has any other ideas....
