Getting fake notifications that are not from text messages and disappear after viewing.

I am seeing fake "Your Apple account has been locked" notifications among others. They are from 6-digit numbers. If I go to the iPhone text message app, those messages are not there.

Normally when I get a text message, I forward it to 7726 or take a screen capture and forward to Apple's phishing email address.

The most recent one I received, I selected "open" so I could get a screen capture of the entire message. It was blank except for at the very top there were icons for possibly 20+ users. I assume I was one of the 20 or more that received the unsolicited notification.

There was nothing to capture and report. The URL to the site was not present anymore nor was the 6 digit number. I swiped down to re-view notifications, and it was no longer present in the notification list.

I did not delete nor clear the notification, so I do not know how it disappeared. I have no security apps other than ATT Call Protect / Active Armor and that works only with phone calls or real (10 digit) notifications.

Hello jstateson,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help keep your iPhone protected. It sounds like this was a pop-up when using Safari.

Check your settings with these steps:

"Check Safari settings

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.

  • Turn on Block Pop-ups.
  • Turn on Fraudulent Website Warning."

This Apple Support page has the full details and even more steps to take: Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari - Apple Support

We hope this helps to better understand what you were seeing and prevent additional pop-ups in the future.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

Cheers!
