repopulated email formerly deleted-listed as unread

I keep my inbox on "mail" fairly empty after reading emails on my iPhone. [around 20, or so].

Every week I find emails I have read and deleted BACK on my iPhone as unread.

They usually span over a month. last week I had 145 unread emails show up. Today 81.

I have Comcast email as well as a Gmail account.

Where are they coming from?

They really are a pain in the...

Hello TR-guy,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Do you currently have your emails set to trash or archive:

"Set Trash or Archive as your default option

Depending on the type of email account you have, you might see Archive instead of Trash when you try to delete emails. You can edit where your deleted messages go in your Mail settings:

  1. In the Settings app, tap Mail.
  2. Tap Accounts.
  3. Tap your account.
  4. Tap your account once more.
  5. Tap Advanced.
  6. Select Deleted Mailbox or Archive Mailbox to send discarded messages there."

More details can be found here: Delete emails on your iPhone or iPad

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Does the issue happen if you use your email servicer providers website to delete emails? Are the deleted emails appearing on the website as well? Also, when did you first notice this?

Cheers!

Thanks Omar_A1

I have both “All Mail” and “Trash”, and my current setting for deleted mail is Trash.

I have Comcast as my ISP and their email is delivered to my inbox as well as my Gmail email.

I have gone to Comcast Mail on the web, and have approximately 15 items in my inbox while showing 104 unread right now in my inbox. At most 10 are really new. A few are flagged for review.

MOST repopulated emails are from Comcast, because it is default for our Amazon account, which we use a lot, so most repopulated emails are from Amazon, but not all.

I wish Apple would have a “select all” during editing a mailbox. Then I could read the new; filter by unread; then delete the rest, rather than needing to select eash unread, and deleting individually.

As per my existing settings on my iPhone: all deleted email go to trash, and are deleted there after one week, and deleted from servers also after one week of being read.

Any suggestions?
