Saved web links always open in safari even thought it's not my default browser

I found a similar thread searching but there did not seem to be an answer.

I save a web address from Firefox (my default browser) by dragging the title to my desktop. Later I click on that link and it opens in Safari. If I go to "Get info" it shows under "Open with" that the default to open this file type .webloc is Safari. And this window is greyed out so I can not change this. Yes, I unlocked the padlock in "Get Info" but it is still greyed out. And yes, I did check and my default browser is Firefox not Safari.

Thank you.

Greetings Ernest Burden,

If your user is an admin user on the Mac, can you change that option there to Firefox? You may have to unlock things with a padlock at the bottom of the window. Then Apply it to all files like that. Choose an app to open a file on Mac

Permanently change the app used to open a file

1. On your Mac, click the Finder icon in the Dock to open a Finder window.
2. Select the file, then choose File > Get Info.
You can also Control-click the file, then choose Get Info.
3. In the Info window, click the arrow next to “Open with.”
4. Click the pop-up menu, then choose the app.
To open all files of this type with this app, click Change All.

Another option may be to save the link as a bookmark in Firefox, instead of on your desktop. This way when you navigate to the site, Firefox is already open. However, trying both processes wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I am the admin user on my computer. I can change the "Open with" on any file type except a "webloc"

These as you see in my attachment have the "Open with" area set to use Safari and are greyed out so you can not change them. I have unlocked the padlock in the get info screen but to no effect.

I have attached another image showing the unlocked padlock but still greyed out "Open with" area.

I came across another similar question here with no solution other than right clicking "open with"

I have submitted a bug report to Apple.

Thanks again,

ernie
