Auto formatting of Notes on Ventura

How can I turn off all of the auto-formatting options in Notes?

I understand Apple is trying to improve things with each new OS version, but one very frustrating thing that Apple and Adobe love to do lately is change things that people have been using for many years, totally disrupting the workflow of professionals all over the world.

Case in point.. Notes. I have been using notes for over 20 years and for the most part, this app has been left alone to be a simple way to type out notes instead of having sticky notes all over your desk or in your pockets. Its simplicity is why I use it.

Now I have updated my OS to Ventura, (against my will and best judgement because I needed to use a new software). On my very first day, I go into notes and start typing for an order I need to place online.. (I use notes to write out the order, then copy an paste into a website form so the website doesn't time out while I am writing the order info.)

As soon as I start typing.. #2456 the text is turned gray and is auto formatted to something.. not sure what.. I try to go into the format menu to take formatting off.. there is no setting to clear formatting.. so I have to figure out a workaround to prevent this from happening. Then I type something else with a # and it turns the text into gold text, apparently tagging it.

Why does Apple have to mess with this stuff? If you want to add capabilities.. give us the option of turning on these new capabilities in settings instead of defaulting new stuff that we then have to figure out how to avoid! These kinds of problems make us seek out other ways to simplify our life.

Hi mdartgalleries,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To remove a tag in Notes, you'll want to follow the steps below that can help:

Use tags in Notes on Mac

In the Notes app  on your Mac, do one of the following:
Delete a tag: Control-click a tag in the Tag Browser, choose Delete Tag, then click Delete to confirm.
The tag is deleted from all notes and Smart Folders that use it.
Note: If you have a Smart Folder that only contains the tag you want to delete, you are asked if you want to delete the Smart Folder.
Delete multiple tags: In the Tag Browser, select the tags you want to delete. Control-click a selected tag, choose Delete Tags, then click Delete to confirm.
The tags are deleted from all notes and Smart Folders that use them.
Change a tag to plain text: Control-click a tag within a note, then choose Convert to Text.
Note: If you convert a tag to text in a shared note, it becomes plain text for all participants.
If you remove a tag from all the notes that use it, it is removed from your Tag Browser.

Additionally, Apple always welcomes and encourages feedback and suggestions. You can submit your feedback directly here:

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
