HomePod as TV sound Output

Given I use the HomePod as my TV output, is there a right or wrong way to turn off the TV and Apple TV so I don't always have to constantly tell Apple TV to use Home pod as the sound output? I don't understand what throws the connection off. Often I have to reset the Apple TV or the Home Pods. Thank you.

Sadly, I DO have that 4K model. Maybe I need to upgrade to the newer HomePods that just came out. Thanks for the reply!

It should work. As soon as I turn on Apple TV to play any content, it immediately connects to the HomePods. You might try signing out of iCloud on your ATV, Restart it, then sign back in & set AirPlay & HomeKit up on it again. The HomePods must be assigned to the same room you’ve assigned the Apple TV to and connected to the same home wifi network. Have a look through this page again to be sure you’ve applied all the correct settings: Set up home theater audio with HomePod mini or HomePod and Apple TV 4K
