Where have my missing files gone?

My iCloud files are missing from 2018-present! Where would they have gone?

Apple's holding your files hostage in iCloud so you can renew the service. It's happening to me and it happened to another guy who had the same problem. I reactivated iCloud and I can't put my files back in my local documents folder. I get a message saying "files in (folder) can't be written to or read" when I try to. Don't listen to anything Apple says, they're just gonna try to justify it by saying "you should've read the terms". It's purposefully done this way because they know no one will really care to read everything. I'll update once I find a solution

Nah because after I left that comment I'm able to transfer only some of my files to my hard drive now. I didn't do anything but wait basically. On a side note, instead of just letting my card decline on a subscription I got a free trial for and cancelling it, Apple let me have the subscription. Only now I can't add my card without it charging me $30. I don't even want the subscription. What a nice company for holding my account hostage now too! :D
