Trying to update my iPhone XR to IOS 16.2 - Internal device error

How do I "fix" this internal device error (~50) (?) so I can update my phone to 16.2?

Have too many apps, not enough storage, so I deleted many apps and connected to my MacBook Pro laptop.

Downloaded the update, turned off my phone and all was going well until ---

"An Internal device error occurred"

Why can't more specific information be provided and a way to fix the problem with this stupid message?

It's so frustrating, tedious and time-consuming to have to search for an answer, that's never quite right and for me, always seems to have an extra glitch that no-one's ever heard of and on and on and on.

(Exhale). so what's the problem and what's the fix, please? Thank you :-)

Hello TheCleverGirl,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If you're receiving update errors wen trying to update your iPhone, we'd like to help out. We have a helpful resource we'd like to share with you. It has steps you can try for when facing errors. Click here: iOS update and restore errors - Apple Support

Try these steps first:
1.) On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15 or later, make sure your Mac is up to date. If you have a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or a PC, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.
2.) If your device couldn't be restored and you get a message that "an unknown error occurred [error number]," use these steps

You can also try these additional steps:

1.) If iTunes is already open, quit and reopen it.
2.) Check your third-party security software.
3.) Make sure that your USB cable, computer, and network are reliable. Then try twice more to restore your device.
4.) Check for outdated or modified software

Also, if you have access to another computer, you can try to update using that computer as well. This can help isolate if this issue is only occurring on one specific computer or with your actual device. If the same error populates on a different computer, consider reaching out to Apple Support. They might need to investigate this issue further with you. Just in case, you can reach them by using this link here: Get Support

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Best of luck.

Hi, my maximum capacity percentage is 84%. Does that make a difference?

I also have a problem updating IOS 16.2 on my XR. When it first tried to install it my phone crashed and would turn off and back on repeatedly and it did a hard restart by itself and lost all my passwords. Since then I have been able to extract whatever had been updated so at least my phone can function but it still won't update using itunes from my PC or by the phone update. It just says error and to reconnect my iphone.
