FCP crashes while editing captions - Final Cut Pro 10.6.5 on Ventura 13.1

While editing captions in Final Cut it will crash as soon as I double click on a caption to edit the text. It doesn't happen every time, but when it does, it will consistently crash on the same caption. Like trying to access a certain line of captions crashes the program, but not the rest of the captions in the same file.

I have attached a crash log as additional text. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is still occurring.

  • I have used homebrew to install applications on my system like ffmpeg.
  • I trashed my preferences when launching FCP. I verified every font in Font Book.
  • The media and project specs match, but this problem happens regardless of the media or project I am using at the time. I work on at least three films a day to correct captions for a video streaming service. The project specs always match the media.

The current project:

1920 x 1036, 24 fps, Normal Project Type, Rendering: Apple ProRes 422, Color Space: Standard - Rec. 709, Audio: Stereo, Sample Rate: 48 kHz

Thank you for your assistance.

I can now confirm that this problem persists with a project file and media at 1920 x 1080. I repeated the trouble shooting steps and FCP continues to crash when attempting to open certain caption lines. I've attached another crash report. I'm going to have to use workarounds to avoid using FCP for this task unless I can find some sort of solution.
