Screen Time and Ask To Buy Prompting for Password on Kids Accounts

Hello all, I have a strange issue that no one can seem to figure out. I have enabled Screen Time for two of my kids each with their own Apple ID's on each of their own devices and everything seems to work like it should except for when they ask for a Free App from the app store.

When I have Ask to Buy setup and Screen Setup turned on when they ask for a Free App it prompts them for the Password for their iTunes account, if you enter the password (which they don't know) I get the request on my Phone to approve their request and when I approve it another password box asking for their iTunes account pops up on their device again. No clue why App Store is asking for the iTunes password account twice. If I turn off Screen Time and leave Ask to Buy on it works like it should, does not ask for any password.

In Screen Time settings under Content & Privacy Restrictions - iTunes & App Store Purchases - Require Password - is set to Don't Require so why does it prompt for the password 2 different times?

My device as Organizer is iPhone 13 Pro Max - iOS 16.2

The kid device is iPad Mini (6th Gen) - iOS 16.2 and iPhone 7

The issue is consistent across different devices for each of the kids each with their own accounts. So it does not seem to be HW or iOS related from what I can tell. Something with Screen Time is forcing the password.

Has anyone else seen or had this problem?

Hello thousandbuckle,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand the Apple ID password is being requested to download an app with Ask to Buy and Screen Time restrictions enabled, right?

If we have that correct, let's have you confirm if the latest software version is installed on the other devices signed in with Apple ID's. If an older version of software is signed in, see if signing out of that device temporarily changes anything for you.

For assistance with signing in and out of an Apple ID, check out this resource: Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support

If you need additional assistance, contact Apple Support directly to check into this with you in more detail.

Have a great day!
