Calendar events find contacts in locations field but not when adding invitees

Why doesn't Calendar find the contact name I type in when I go to add an invitee to an event, but does find the contact when I type the name in the location field? It only seems to impact a few relatively recent invitees. This seems like a bug -- either Calendar is aware of contacts or it isn't. The same thing happens on both my MacBook Air and my iPhone 11. All the usual caveats are checked off: O/Ss updated, iCloud is synching, calendars and contacts both refreshed and connecting to iCloud.

iPhone 11, iOS 16

Hi MNMiller,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities for help with Calendar on both your iPhone and Mac. Let's see if we can help get this sorted out for you.

You mentioned this is only happening with recent invitees. Does that mean it's only happening with new contacts that you've added? If so, have you verified which Calendar the contacts were added to? What about deleting one of the contacts and adding them back? If you haven't tried that step, go ahead give it a go now and let us know if you see any change.

We can tell you are very familiar with Contacts and Calendars, so we're sharing this just as a reference for you.

Let us know the information asked above if you are still needing help.

Take care!
