My own number appearing as 2nd participant in contacts Messages

Recently moved from Android to iPhone, moving all my contacts, messages etc.

Certain contacts (not all) are showing up in Messages with my number (Name) and the contact, so that if I text that contact I am also getting that message. e.g Me & John.

Anyone know how to get rid of my number appearing in these messages, and preferably without deleting the entire message history?

Hey there Shayan91,

Congrats on getting your new iPhone!

That's certainly unexpected behavior, and we'd like to help. Let's start with confirming more details to better understand what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. You mentioned that this only occurs with some contacts, not all. If you try deleting a conversation with one of the affected contacts, then start a new one, what occurs?
  2. When did this first start on your new iPhone?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  4. If you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!
