Why can’t I ever send photos in iMessage?

Can’t send photos in iMessage iOS 18.2 I am not able to send photos in iMessage after last update. If I go into the photo, select it, then click on the forward button and select to send via messages, only the text I enter transmits and no photo. Is this path no longer supported? I am able to send a photo on an already opened message thread by clicking the plus sign and selecting photo - if this is the only way now, then the “forward” screen option should not show that “messages” are a viable option to select ( it still works correctly if you pick email or notes)

Double check the following setting:

Open Settings ➡️ Messages ➡️ MMS Messaging: Ensure that this switch is set to ON.
