iCloud photos not showing on Mac

For the last several months, the photos I take on my iPhone show on my iPhone, my iPad, and the iCloud. They do not show on my MacBook Pro. I need them there for editing and use. How can I get them to my Mac?

Is your MacBook Pro using the same Apple ID for iCloud and do you have iCloud Photos turned on in the Photos > Settings (or Preferences) > iCloud (at the top of the Preferences window > iCloud Photos?

Those are the only two things required for the photos to sync.

Also note that it uses the Photos app, not the older and now discontinued iPhotos app on Macs.
