Hi there deesignershoe,
You'll most likely need to use an adapter to connect your new MacBook Air with an external display. Follow the steps in this link: Use an external display with your MacBook Air - Apple Support
If you run into any issues, work through the suggested steps here to see if they resolve the issue for you: If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry when connected to your Mac - Apple Support
Take care.

Connecting a MacBook Air M2 to a Cinema Display...
Works fine on my Intel and M1 processor Macs. I have not tried it on a M2 processor Mac. You should try it, and find out for yourself, reporting back if it works. It requires a few adapters to zero out the wattage. See my User Tip: Configuring a USB-C Only Mac with a 30-Inch Apple Cinema Display - Apple Support
Exactly which model cinema HD display will determine whether you need single'Link DVI or Dual Link DVI. Another way to check is displays no wider than 1920 wide need only single-link DVI, (which is another way of saying 'unspecified' DVI which is cheaper.
On the computer end, the speeds are modest enough that USB-C (plugs into the same jack and picks up a subset) is all that is needed. More expensive and unnecessary ThunderBolt-3 will be impossible to find.
TheLittles have posted a link to their very nice procedure for connecting the 30-in display.
However, if your display is no wider than 1920 wide, much of the additional complexity of connecting the 30-in wide 2560 by 1600 display is not necessary.
Thanks for your help. In the photo above, my the female end of my display adapter is the DVI-D (not "I"). So, I found one on Amazon and just ordered it (DVI-D to USB C). Hopefully this will work. Apparently Apple doesn't make this adapter. I don't usually like using third party items with my mac stuff. sigh.

You have not yet clarified WHICH cinema HD display.
if narrower, such as the 23-in cinema display, that inexpensive adapter will do nicely.
If yours a 30-in, resolution will be extremely limited, and you will need the more complex and expensive solution posted by TheLittles.
what connector? need help finding an adapter?
Thank you, looks like I need a DVI-I to Thunderbolt. I will look!
