Family purchase sharing turned off, but cannot edit payment methods

I’m part of a family sharing organized by my wife. After turning off purchase sharing, I still cannot edit my payment methods. Under the Family section of my Apple ID settings, it clearly says Purchase Sharing is not enabled. I also have gone on my wife’s phone and it says Purchase Sharing is now off.

However, whenever I try to make a purchase on iTunes for example, it still forces me to use the shared payment method. In the Payment and Shipping section of my settings, the “edit” button is greyed out and it says “the payment methods used for Family Sharing are managed by the family organizer”.

How can I add my own payment methods back to my Apple ID?

Hey there presidentsantos,

We understand you want to use your own payment method instead of the one setup for Family Sharing. We'd be happy to provide information to help you out.

Simply turning off purchase sharing does not stop the charges from going to the Organizer's card. You can, however, add funds to your Apple ID with an Apple gift card. The funds will be first withdrawn from the Apple ID credit. Keep in mind, you must buy a card directly from the Apple site, otherwise the reload charge will still go to the Organizer's card: Buy Apple Gift Cards - Apple

Regards.
