Apple Music sharing

My mom has put me and my dad on the family sharing and it won’t let me get onto the family subscription without buying the family plan myself. What do I do?

iPhone 12, iOS 16

I had the same issue with adding my dad (inviting him and adding were successful, but he could NOT access any of the family sharing music), BUT after searching the internet for hours, I just found the answer on Reddit and this solution seems to work for a lot of the people who posted on it.

Do not buy or sign up for your own trial or individual subscription.

If your mom sees you and your dad on her iPhone under family sharing, then from HER iPhone,

(1) go to “Media & Purchases” under Settings (to find “Media & Purchases”, first click the 1st line in Settings, which is her photo/her name).

(2) After clicking on “Media & Purchases”, a menu will pop up. Click on RED “Sign Out.” You may have to try to sign out a few times.

(3) Then have your mom sign immediately back in using her Apple ID login and password.

Doing this will reset YOUR MOM’s connection to the subscriptions and recognize your dad’s and your acceptance to her invitation to Apple Music Family Sharing! Once this happens, your dad and you should be able to use Apple Music to your heart’s content! 🥰

Also, FYI, per Apple Policy, you have to be in the SAME REGION as your family member or friend you are inviting to Family Sharing. BUT you do not need to live in the same household.

I hope this helps!

Hello elahna160,

It seems like you're unable to access your family's shared content, and we want to help.

Please check out this link, which explains what to do if you're unable to access your family's shared content, and may help: If you can't find your family's shared content

Check your Family Sharing settings

Make sure that you're using the same Apple ID for Family Sharing and Media & Purchases. And make sure that purchase sharing is turned on. Then ask your family members to check their settings too.

On your iPhone or iPad with iOS 16 or later

1. Go to Settings > Family.
2. Tap your name.
3. Make a note of which Apple ID is listed.

4. Tap Purchases.
5. Tap Apple ID for Purchases and make sure that you're signed in with with the same Apple ID that you use for Family Sharing. If not, tap Share using secondary Apple ID and enter the Apple ID and password for that Apple ID.

Thanks!

Hello elahna160,

Thanks for checking. Are you asking about shared purchases, or the actual Apple Music subscription?

Check that your mom purchased the Apple Music Family subscription, and not an individual subscription if you are asking about the Apple Music service: Get an Apple Music family subscription - Apple Support

If she has an individual subscription, then she can change it to a Family subscription: "Already subscribe to Apple Music? Learn how to change to a family subscription."

If she already has the Apple Music Family Subscription, please contact Apple support to investigate this further with you: Contact Apple Support

Thanks.
