Files saving to Documents folder instead of folder selected

The last few weeks, I'm having an issue saving files in the location I choose. When I save a new document, I type the name and choose a location. The split second I select save, the folder location jumps to the main level of the documents folder and saves the document there. I have repeatedly checked that I'm in the right location that I want. It happens in Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) and Office (Word, excel) that I've noticed so far.

It only happens about 50% of the time, but I'm getting really tired of having to fish my new file out of main level of the documents folder.

Any fixes?

I have this exact same issue, it jumps when I use the arrow keys to get to the end of the filename in the "Save As" box (say I want to append _001 or something so that the filename is IMG_001.png instead of IMG.png). The file name is highlighted up the beginning of the file extension, so pressing right should take my cursor to right before the ".png" but instead it jumps the selected FOLDER to Documents instead. If I'm not paying attention, I save files in the wrong place. Happens in all sorts of different applications.

yes, I noticed this this week as well. The arrow keys (used to jump to the end of the filename) move the folder location to documents, and sometimes just clicking save moves the folder to documents.

It's in Chrome and Adobe apps that I notice it most.

@hc1111 I can move files fine after they're in the wrong place. The idea is, though, I shouldn't have to move them. They should be saving where I select every time.

Hey there san0003,

When you try to save a file from an Apple application, does it seem to save to the correct location? Also, are you able to change the files location so it shows properly?

Try changing the location of these files using these steps:

Move items into folders
1. On your Mac, click the Finder icon  in the Dock to open a Finder window.
2. Do any of the following:
• Put an item in a folder: Drag it to the folder.
• Put several items in a folder: Select the items, then drag one of the items to the folder.
All selected items move to the folder.
• Put a window’s content in a folder: Move the pointer to the immediate left of the window title until an icon appears, then drag the icon to the folder.
You can press and hold the Shift key to have the icon appear immediately when you move the pointer into the title area. You can also drag the beginning of the window title to the folder without waiting for the icon to appear.
• Keep an item in its original location and put a copy in a folder: Select the item, press and hold the Option key, then drag the item to the folder.
• Keep an item in its original location and put an alias for it in a new folder: Press and hold the Option and Command keys, then drag the item to the folder to create the alias.
• Make a copy of an item within the same folder: Select the item, then choose File > Duplicate or press Command-D.
• Copy files to a different disk: Drag the files to the disk.
• Move files to a different disk: Press and hold the Command key, then drag the files to the disk.
